Ecological compensation of stochastic wetland biodiversity: National or regional policy schemes?

چکیده
The aim of this study is to compare policy schemes for ecological compensation applied at national and regional levels, using exploited inland wetlands as an example. We whether uncertainty, due natural variability measurement difficulties, motivates that carried out in the same region site, or it rather nationwide schemes. For purpose, we develop empirical, chance-constrained programming model cost-effective wetland management. spatially differentiated accounts heterogeneity quality across types regions. Wetland defined by three alternative biodiversity indices: species richness, population-weighted red-listed estimated from voluntarily reported data on breeding bird observations. Results show are more expensive, particular if maker dislikes uncertainty wants prioritize uncommon species. Contrary expectations theoretical analysis, would lead a higher risk-adjusted level level. However, regionalization also implies targets cannot be achieved high safety margin imposed. Trading ratios robust choice index.

Article history: Received 19 October 2016 Received in revised form 23 February 2017 Accepted 12 June 2017 Available online xxxx ‘Nonet loss’ (NNL) policies involve quantifying biodiversity impacts associatedwith economic development, and implementing commensurate conservation gains to balance losses. Local stakeholders are often affected by NNL biodiversity trades. But to what extent are NNL pr...

متن کاملCrab biodiversity under different management schemes of mangrove ecosystems
Reforestation is one of the Philippines’ government efforts to restore and rehabilitate degraded mangrove ecosystems. Although there is recovery of the ecosystem in terms of vegetation, the recovery of closely-linked faunal species in terms of community structure is still understudied. This research investigates the community structure of mangrove crabs under two different management schemes: p...
متن کاملThe ecological consequences of megafaunal loss: giant tortoises and wetland biodiversity
The giant tortoises of the Galápagos have become greatly depleted since European discovery of the islands in the 16th Century, with populations declining from an estimated 250 000 to between 8000 and 14 000 in the 1970s. Successful tortoise conservation efforts have focused on species recovery, but ecosystem conservation and restoration requires a better understanding of the wider ecological co...
